The World Groove Collective is an international jazz quintet led by award-winning Dutch saxophonist Tom van der Zaal and renowned percussionist Steven Brezet.
Uniting musicians from diverse backgrounds, the group blends jazz tradition with vibrant influences from Africa and South America to create a dynamic, rhythm-driven sound. Their music reflects a shared commitment to groove, interaction, and cultural exchange, resulting in compositions that feel both rooted and contemporary.
Inspired by artists such as Roy Hargrove, Milton Nascimento, Kenny Garrett, and Chucho Valdés, the band’s writing is driven by improvisation and syncopation. Through high-octane solos and intricate polyrhythmic textures, The World Groove Collective delivers a rich and immersive live experience that channels the energy of New York jazz while speaking in a distinctly global voice.
